Practise the words your speech therapist recommends. This app does not diagnose or treat.

Speech Buddy is a practice toy to use alongside your child's therapy. Add the exact words and sounds the therapist gives you under “Therapist's words”. If something worries you, ask the therapist or doctor.

  • Sit face to face so he can see your mouth. Say the word with Buddy.
  • Praise every try. Never ask him to “say it properly”. Just repeat the word back clearly.
  • Short and fun: 5 minutes, stop while he's still enjoying it.

Therapist's words

Add the target words from therapy. They come up most often in every “Words” game.

    Listening & recording

When listening is off, or the browser can't listen, he gets a big “I said it!” button for you to tap after he tries. Buddy cheers for every try either way, and never tells him he got it wrong.

      Daily routine idea

Speech Buddy time! 5 minutes, face to face, cheer every try.

      • Pick one or two calm times, like after breakfast and before bath.
      • Set a daily alarm on your phone with the text above as its label.
      • Use the same words in real life all day: at meals, in the bath, on walks.

Put Buddy on the home screen

Android (Chrome): tap the ⋮ menu, then Install app or Add to Home screen.

iPhone / iPad (Safari): tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.

After the first open it works without internet. Listening may still need internet on some phones.

      Privacy

No data leaves this device. Speech Buddy has no account, no ads and no trackers. Words, settings, progress and recordings are saved only in this browser, on this phone or tablet. Buddy's voice comes from the voices built into your device.

One exception, from the browser itself: on some browsers the “listen” feature uses the browser maker's online speech service. For example, Chrome on Android sends the audio to Google to turn it into text, and Safari on iPhone may use Apple's servers. The app never keeps or sends that text anywhere. If you'd rather avoid this, turn “Listen when he talks” off above and use the “I said it!” button.

Recordings, if turned on, are stored on this device only and never uploaded.
